Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.
Vincent Van Gogh
When I found these rocks with lines through them, I couldn't help but believe that it was what was INSIDE of them that caused them to want to line up, and be together...making something bigger than then they could do on their own...something that reached long, reached out, reached forward...something each one could not do on its own.
I was fascinated by how this rock was purple and rough with a thick creamy seam running through it, and that one was a dark green, smooth pebble with a tiny scar of white, and the other was a deep red, carefully contoured triangle with a perfectly straight line through and through...yet each end could touch, going somewhere.
These lake pebbles are every one of us: we each have something in our center, that is capable of reaching out to what is inside and running through ANY one standing next to us. If we would open our REAL EYES and see beyond color, race, religion, creed, education, age, economic status or any other outward condition, we could line up what is common, what is kindred, what is united, and what is true. There is ONE heartbeat that runs through all of us, through which we can hear and understand and appreciate each difference at the same time as we know we are a part of each other.
If you decide that you are not a part of any one else, you will never reach far. Standing alone and bundled within yourself, your heart will never grow. Seeing yourself as somehow superior and unattached to anyone who is different from you, makes you very small and alone.
One of these stones is small and alone by itself, but together, they can make a line reaching around the entire lake.
Which would you rather be?
Which will make our world a better place to live in?
