i'm thinking...

of homeschooling my children...just a thought that has been forming for awhile...

What matters most in their education? That they "did it the way every other kid did it", or that they had the most fun doing it the way THEY needed to do it, and learned how to be IN the world, not just floating over it in a textbook?
These prompt so many new and sometimes uncomfortable ideas in me:
will I be patient?
will I do it right?
what will our families say?
what will I do for friends for my children?
what does this mean for me?
how will I know if I'm doing it right?

lots to think about...
I just do NOT slow down, now do I?

Oh my! I am trying to stay calm, but honestly ... what an exciting thought! I am always delighted when I hear someone wants to homeschool their children, but especially so when it's someone who would do it extremely well.

will I be patient? ... maybe, or maybe not. It's not important. Be yourself. (I can't imagine you being impatient.) Prayer helps alot.

will I do it right? There is no right way. You just live it.

what will our families say? The only people whose opinion you need to care about are your children's and husband's.

what will I do for friends for my children? The whole socialisation thing is such a big scam! I loved this book - http://www.amazon.com/Hold-Your-Kids-Parents-Matter/dp/037550821X But also think of shop owners, bus drivers, museum guides, neighbours, art class attendees, horses, kids on the beach ...

what does this mean for me? Good question!

how will I know if I'm doing it right? There is no right, but you will know if your children are happy and you are happy.

Do you read the weblog "Are So Happy"? Kyrie is amazing and I love the way she makes her family life full of love and beauty and it just spills over to inspire other people and enlighten their lives. That is the sort of thing homeschooling can do. You help your children, you help the whole world.

Many blessings, I hope you find the best path for your family.
